02/02/2014 Prompt: Reddy’s Point of View

Reddy heard a car turn in the driveway and turned away from playing ignore the stick with Bobby to see who was coming to visit.  He started dancing in excitement when he saw it was Mr. Delanoy’s truck.  Maybe Star was with her human and was coming to play.  As the truck pulled to a stop near the house, Star barked hello.  Reddy ran to the truck and started jumping to be able to look in the truck and see Star.  Mr. Delanoy opened the door and Star jumped out and ran to Reddy.

Reddy moaned and greeted Star as only dogs can do,

“Hey Star.  You smell like vet!  Have you been to see Dr. Samet?  Come on lets play chase!"

“Hey Bobby”, Mr. Delanoy said. “ Is your Dad around or maybe Mart?” Bobby replied,  “No sir,  Dad isn’t here,  but Mart is.  Come on inside and I’ll get him for you.”

Reddy looked at Star and said, “You look different than last time.  Looks like you are eating better.  Did your humans change your food?  Sometimes Bobby will slip me food under the table, but Mart never does.  He always eats all his food, even vegetables.  And what are those things hanging down under your tummy.  Seems to me, they would really interfere with a good belly scratching.”

Star howled,”Yeah, I really miss the belly rubs.  And these hurt too!  My human says this is all because we were roughhousing a few months ago.  Remember, they had to turn the water on us to break us apart?”

“Hmm yeah, yeah, that was fun.  Lets do it again.” Reddy eagerly exclaimed.

Star replied, “Hmm No.  Not interested.  I am not hot anymore.”

Reddy heard the screen door slam and saw Mr. Delanoy and Mart coming towards them.  Heck, looks like he wasn’t getting to have any more fun with Star today.

Mart said, “I’m really sorry about this Mr. Delanoy.”

Mr. Delanoy grinned and replied, “Don’t worry about it Mart.  Just keep in mind that if you kids can talk your folks into it,  you will get first pick of the litter.”

Mart laughed and said, “Dad might agree to it,  but I think we will have to get Reddy fixed first.”

Reddy sat down and tilted his head to look at Mart.

“Fixed?”  What does that mean.  The last thing I broke was that old blue lamp in Trixie’s room from Aunt Alicia, and Trixie said it wasn’t worth fixing anyway."

"What does Mart mean, “Fixed.”?
