02/08/2014 Prompt: A Letter

Mommie!”

Trixie jumped out of her light doze. “What is it Katie?”

Katie harrumphed, “I can’t find my letter.  I NEED my letter.”

“Well, Katie,  what do you think happened to your letter?” Trixie yawned.

“I think Jamie took it.  Jamie always messes everything up!” the little girl pouted.

Trixie held back a chuckle and thought to herself that she shouldn’t have to be dealing with sibling rivalry so soon.  After all,  Jamie was just 5 days old.  He hadn’t even lost his umbilical stump yet.

“Come up here on the sofa with Mommie, Sweetpea, and tell me how Jamie is always messing everything up.”

Katie whined, “All he does is poop, eat, spit-up and cry. And if you aren’t feeding him or changing his diaper, you are taking a nap.  You used to play with me, lots before HE came to live with us.”

“Katie, three years ago, when YOU were a baby, I did all the things for you that I am doing for Jamie.  And the Lord knows I love you forever and and more than all the drops of water in the sea and oceans, but you could be a real little pill when you were a baby.  You know you think that spit-up is gross?  Well let me tell you little lady,  you could spit up and burp at the same time, so YOUR spit-up would go across a room.”

Katie laughed, “I did not!”

Trixie joined the laughter, “Oh yes, you did.  When Daddy gets home, you just ask him.  He once said that if you and Uncle Bobby were in a burping contest, he would bet on you every time.  Ok, back to the point.  Where did you last see your letter?”

Katie hopped down and grabbed Trixie’s hand and headed to the next room, “In the kitchen on the rrr-fridg-er-ater.  Come see Mommie.”

When they were in the kitchen, Katie pointed to the fridge and Trixie saw    A M I E.

“See?  I have my A and M and I and E,  but I can’t find my J anywhere.”
