However, as he stood surveying the largess of his vegetable larder, he saw some suspicious movement down by the carrots. There was a plant top that was moving, but there was no wind.
After remembering the time that Bobby was bitten by a copperhead in his mother’s garden, he decided that he should carefully check along the rows of vegetables to make sure that there weren’t any venomous reptiles that could wind up biting one of the kids.
That would be appropriate wouldn’t it. A garden in an apple orchard (ok, sure, it was a crabapple orchard) housing a snake that was prepared to bite one of his begats.
Mart walked the rows of his garden, carefully checking under the green tops of each plant. Even though he had heavy boots on, he wasn’t looking forward to surprising any snake. Then he saw a carrot top wiggle. Suddenly it disappeared into the ground just like used to happen on the old Loony Toons cartoons. And at that moment he wanted to throw a tantrum just like Yosemite Sam and point his old 22 shot-gun down into the hole to shoot that thieving varmint that was stealing his food.
